New laptop processors are making all-day battery life much longer, with some 2026 models approaching or even exceeding 20 hours under specific testing conditions.
For years, “all-day battery life” usually meant getting through a full workday before recaching for a charger.
That is beginning to change.
Newer laptop processors are becoming significantly more power-efficient, allowing some thin-and-light laptops to run for much longer without increasing their battery size dramatically.
Qualcomm currently advertises up to 22 hours of battery life for laptops using its Snapdragon X Series, although actual results vary by laptop, settings and workload.
That raises an interesting question:
Could two-day laptops finally become practical?

The Chip Is Becoming More Important
Battery life is not only about battery capacity.
The processor also determines how efficiently a laptop uses that stored energy.
Modern chips are increasingly designed to deliver useful performance while consuming less power. This is one reason ARM-based laptop processors, including Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Series, have attracted attention for long battery life.

A manufacturer claiming 20 or 22 hours does not mean you can continuously edit 4K video or play demanding games for two days.
Battery life depends heavily on:

- Power settings
A laptop performing light office work can last dramatically longer than the same machine running demanding software.
Recent independent testing also shows that different processors behave differently when running on battery, particularly under heavy workloads.

Longer battery life changes how people use laptops.
A student could spend an entire day at university without carrying a charger.
A traveller could work through a long flight and continue working after landing.
