The Biggest Games Coming in 2026: What Gamers Should Watch

The second half of 2026 is shaping up to be one of the busiest periods in gaming, with major releases arriving across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. From Marvel’s Wolverine to the long-awaited Grand Theft Auto VI, the remaining months of the year are packed with games that could define the gaming conversation.

Some of these titles are sequels to established franchises, while others are returning after years of development. Here are the major games gamers should be watching as 2026 moves toward its final months.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Release date: September 15, 2026
Platform: PlayStation 5

Insomniac Games is finally bringing its version of Wolverine to players. Marvel’s Wolverine arrives on September 15 exclusively for PlayStation 5, giving the console another major first-party release.

The game puts Logan at the centre of a new action-adventure story rather than simply using him as another playable Marvel character. Insomniac is promising brutal close-range combat, exploration and a darker interpretation of the character.

Its importance goes beyond the Marvel name. Insomniac has already demonstrated its ability to create large superhero games with Marvel’s Spider-Man, so Wolverine will show how the studio can adapt that formula to a character built around aggressive melee combat.

For PS5 owners, this is one of the first major releases to watch immediately.

CONTROL Resonant

Release date: September 24, 2026
Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC

Remedy Entertainment is returning to the strange supernatural world of Control with CONTROL Resonant.

The sequel launches worldwide on September 24 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Mac version is planned for later in 2026.

This time, players explore a distorted version of Manhattan while following Dylan Faden, brother of the original game’s protagonist Jesse Faden.

The game is particularly interesting because Remedy is expanding the Control formula into an action-adventure RPG. That gives the studio more room to build exploration, combat and character progression around its strange supernatural setting.

For fans of games that mix action with mystery and unusual storytelling, CONTROL Resonant could become one of the year’s most distinctive releases.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Release date: November 5, 2026
Platform: Nintendo Switch 2

Nintendo is bringing one of gaming’s most influential adventures back for a new generation.

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time arrives on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5 as a fully reworked version of the classic 1998 adventure. Nintendo says the remake features overhauled visuals, updated gameplay, refreshed sound, orchestral music, improved camera and movement controls, and expanded character dialogue.

This release matters because Ocarina of Time is not simply another older game receiving a new version. It is one of the titles that helped establish many of the conventions still used by modern 3D adventure games.

Nintendo is also releasing it just two weeks before GTA VI, which makes its November launch particularly interesting.

For Switch 2 owners, it could become one of the platform’s biggest releases of the year.

Grand Theft Auto VI

Release date: November 19, 2026

Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S

No 2026 gaming list would be complete without Grand Theft Auto VI.

Rockstar has confirmed November 19, 2026 as the release date, with the game launching on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not announced a PC launch date.

GTA VI is returning players to Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, with Jason and Lucia at the centre of the story. Rockstar’s recent extended gameplay presentation has shown a much larger and more detailed world than previous entries in the series.

The importance of GTA VI goes beyond its expected sales.

Grand Theft Auto has traditionally influenced open-world design, online gaming, storytelling and even wider popular culture. After more than a decade since GTA V, expectations surrounding the sequel are enormous.

It could also become the game against which other major releases are compared for years.

Why These Games Matter

These releases represent different directions for the gaming industry.

Marvel’s Wolverine shows the continued strength of major licensed superhero games.

CONTROL Resonant represents a more experimental approach to action-adventure games and supernatural storytelling.

Ocarina of Time demonstrates how publishers are bringing influential classics to modern hardware.

And GTA VI represents the enormous scale and commercial power of the modern AAA blockbuster.

Together, they show that gaming in 2026 is not moving in one direction.

The industry is simultaneously investing in established franchises, remakes, cinematic experiences, experimental worlds and enormous open-world games.

The Real Competition Is for Players’ Time

One interesting part of the 2026 release schedule is how close several major games are arriving.

Players have limited time and money, so a crowded release calendar can create difficult choices.

A gamer interested in action games may have to choose between Wolverine and CONTROL Resonant. Nintendo players have Ocarina of Time arriving in November, while GTA VI is scheduled to launch only two weeks later.

That makes release timing increasingly important.

A great game can still struggle for attention if it launches alongside several other major titles.

What Should Gamers Watch?

If you want the next major release, Marvel’s Wolverine is the immediate title to watch.

If you prefer strange worlds and supernatural action, CONTROL Resonant is one of September’s most interesting releases.

If you own a Nintendo Switch 2, Ocarina of Time is one of the year’s most important games for the platform.

And if you are waiting for the biggest release of the year, GTA VI is clearly the game to watch.

The interesting part is that these games are not competing to offer exactly the same experience.

They represent four different reasons people play games: character-driven action, exploration and mystery, classic adventure and enormous open-world freedom.

2026 Is Ending With a Major Gaming Push

The biggest gaming releases of 2026 show how much the industry has changed.

Games now arrive with enormous production budgets, years of development and expectations that extend far beyond traditional gaming audiences. At the same time, older games are being rebuilt for new hardware, while established franchises continue to attract massive attention.

The final months of 2026 therefore have something for almost every type of player.

But one release stands above the rest in terms of global attention.

When GTA VI finally arrives on November 19, the gaming industry will be watching closely.

Until then, Wolverine, CONTROL Resonant and Ocarina of Time give players plenty to look forward to.

2026 may have started with a long list of promising games, but its final months could be what makes the year one of the most memorable gaming years in recent history.
